Daily Devotion for November 21, 2006

A Touch Of Transfiguration

Jesus took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Luke 9:28-36

In the story of the transfiguration we see, maybe for the briefest of moments, a glimpse of who Jesus is, a truth made obvious to his friends who have come with him.

Transfiguration is a personal experience.

Have you ever listened to a passage of scripture, one that you probably know by heart, and then, suddenly, it seems to fill you with new meaning? I know a lady whom I call "Mrs. Matthew 6:6" (Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled). While I was reading that beautiful passage in a Bible Class one week, she was transfigured. She literally radiated joy in every direction. When I later talked with her, she told me how that simple verse transformed her life. Eighty other people heard the same verse that morning and didn't seem particularly bothered by it... but for one solitary soul, it was transforming.

Ask yourself, if there is someone you can reach out to, someone you can touch, transform, and yes, God willing, transfigure - a lonely soul, a hurting soul, a sorrowing soul, a dying soul? A single soul that needs you in order to experience transformation and transfiguration, a soul desiring new life, abundant life, life in Christ?

Prayer
We thank you, God of transforming power and transfiguring glory, for the hope and promise that our lives can be made new, even transfigured, as we live in the love of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
