The Secrets of Jesus
Jesus said, “At my Father’s direction I have done many things to help the people. For which one of these good deeds are you killing me?” John 10:32
What were the secrets of Jesus?
I don’t mean those secrets that people gossip about. What were his secrets to his spiritual health? What did he do, that I don’t that gave him such spiritual power? Today’s reading reveals one secret. He sought the Father above all else.
Jesus, the Christ, did not make decisions independently. He could have, after all He was God. But to set an example for us, He relied on His Father for ALL direction. There were lots of things he could have done to help people, but the Father always directed how he helped. I tend to help people as I think they need help. Sometimes it seems to work out all right, and other times it seems to do no good. Sometimes my “help” actually harms. My intent was pure, but my wisdom was limited.
Why do I fail to cling to the Father? Why do I try to be independent? The possible answers scare me. I don’t want to admit that I’m self-seeking at times or that somehow I think God is too busy to ask or wait for him to direct, or to think that I assume what His will is without asking. Is it possible that I take the Father for granted? All I know is that if I let go of the Father I will leave the path he prepared for me. I need to always let Him direct!
Prayer
I’m sorry, Father, for living so independent of you. What am I doing? Venturing off on my own is so foolish. I steal your praise with my own agenda. Or worse, I bring shame to you and your family. Holy Sprit, draw me to the Father. Let me always seek your will in ALL that I do in serving others.. Amen.
