Daily Devotion for June 1, 2006

Honest Abe

They did not require an accounting from those to whom they gave the money to pay the workers, because they acted with complete honesty.    2 Kings 12:15

Our 16th president was given the nickname “Honest Abe” when he was a postmaster. For several years he held onto the money owed to a person before he could locate its rightful owner. Even today, we know of his nickname even though we may not have known of this good deed.

Thinking about what to write for this devotional, I thought of all the things I did or didn’t do yesterday that might have caused me to cheat someone. Then I considered if I was being honest? I even wondered if I will be remembered for what I did.

Consider these questions and answer them honestly:
Yesterday…
 · Did I rob someone of a friendly greeting?
 · Did I neglect someone I shouldn't?
 · Did I miss my quiet time with the Lord?
 · Did I give my all at work?
 · Did I finish all the plans I had made?
 · Did I offer any hope or guidance to anyone through knowing Jesus Christ my Lord?

Prayer
Dear Lord, Let me be who you want me to be. Don't let me rob someone from knowing You. Let me be honest in all I do and let all that I do be for You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
